Telecom Engineering Consultants, Inc. (TEC) Completes Installation of Inmate Video Visitation System at Naples Jail in Collier County, Florida
TEC completes installation of the Inmate Video Visitation System at the Naples Detention Center providing a critical component to the Collier County Sheriff's Department (CCSO) requirements for a safe, cost efficient facility.
Miami, FL, November 1, 2004 – Telecom Engineering Consultants, Inc. (TEC) announced the completion of the Inmate Video Visitation System for the Collier County Sheriff's Office, in Naples, Florida. The Collier County Detention Center is a direct supervision detention center, currently undergoing expansion. The video visitation system supplied by TEC is an integral part of the current facility design and is expected to reduce costs and risks by centralizing and automating the inmate visitation process. The visitation system features thirty-five (35) visitor stations across the street from the main Jail facility in the Collier County Government Center and forty-two (42) inmate visitation stations located throughout the Jail itself. Video visitation eliminates movement of either visitors or inmates, greatly reducing the associated costs and risks while allowing extended visitation hours.
The video visitation system is a critical technological innovation employed at the Naples Jail facility focused on saving the County money while reducing the risks associated with the movement of inmates and visitors within the detention center. The system provided by TEC incorporates all the features and functions required by the Sheriff’s office for quality, performance and aesthetics. The new video visitation system is designed for the future, incorporating video visitation for the current jail facilities and providing for expansion to support the new inmate locations in the Jail Expansion and further reduce costs. Video Consultation is the next technological investment the CCSO will make by adding the Public Defender's (PD) Office to the System. This will significantly reduce the number of visits from the PD's office to consult with inmates that they are representing, thus providing all the inherent cost savings and risk reductions.”
The video visitation system provided by TEC significantly reduces the movement of both visitors and inmates, eliminating associated cost. At the same time, a great deal of attention was paid to providing a high quality video communication system for visitation and to providing visitors with a comfortable visitation environment in an effort to provide the best possible visitation experience, including extended visitation hours. In addition to adding the PD's Office, the CCSO is connecting the Naples Jail Inmate Video Visitation System to the Immokalee Jail Center, which has a comparative Inmate Video Visitation System that has been in operation for over 18 months. This connection will allow visitors who live in Immokalee to visit inmates housed in the Naples Jail and visitors that live in Naples to visit inmates housed in the Immokalee Jail. It will also allow the PD's Office to conduct client consultation with inmates at the Immokalee Jail directly from there offices in the Courthouse Building without traveling to the Immokalee Jail location. This will result in a huge savings in travel expense and allow the PD's office to turn the travel time into consultation time.
The video visitation system installed by TEC is built around video communications technology from VUGate Corporation, a leading supplier of systems and solutions for the Judicial and Corrections market. TEC is VUGate’s largest Systems Integrator for Video Visitation systems, which feature the use of campus-based video communications coupled with VUGate’s MINXMate Automated Visitation Management software.
