A CODEC on
a VUGate SuperHub is an ISDN and/or IP gateway used for making long distance calls
where the audio/video transmitted is digitized and compressed. The MINX
Network CODECs follow the ITU H.320 and H.323 standards for
videoconferencing and provides a gateway to the Wide Area (long distance)
for the local connections in offices and conference rooms connected to the
MINX Local Video Network. The MINX Network
CODEC is connected to a SuperHub as a shared resource that
allows anyone on the local video network to dial through the CODEC from
their desktop.
The MINX 2315 Network CODEC is a dual protocol codec and supports both the
H.320 and H.323 standard protocols. In the H.320 standard protocol, it will
connect directly to the public switched telecommunications network and will
support line speeds from 56KB to 384KB. In the H.323 mode of operation, the
MINX 2315 CODEC is meant to connect to a LAN/WAN network via TCP/IP
protocol. In the H.323 mode of operation, the MINX 2315 CODEC will support
network speeds up to 1.5MB. In either mode of operation, the MINX 2315 CODEC
will connect to the telecommunication network via a standard V.35
telecommunications connection, or directly to ISDN BRI lines.

The
VUGateCAM is ideally suited for video
visitation and other one-on-one video phone calls due to its ability to
provide for optimum eye contact between the parties.
This is due to its design that allows it to sit down over the edge
of the monitor without blocking the user’s view but accurately
displaying the user’s eyes.
The
VUGateCAM includes a built-in microphone and a shutter that you can open
or close to block video and audio.
It also provides two lenses: normal view and wide-angle view. The
normal view is recommended for individual video calls (that is,
one-to-one). The wide-angle view is recommended for group video calls
(that is, several people are participating from one video workstation), or
for video workstations that are set up in a lab or a conference room.
Also, use the wide-angle view if the VUGateCAM is mounted on the ceiling
in a corner of the room and you want to provide a view of the room.
